White-label
White-label refers to a company that produces a product or service but allows other companies to repackage and sell it under their own brand name.
How it works
At its core, the original supplier provides an unbranded or generically branded base product, while the purchaser (typically a reseller or partner) can apply its own branding, design, and marketing materials. This lets the purchaser quickly launch its own branded products without investing heavily in R&D, while the supplier expands its market reach through a partner network.
Examples
- 1.A small bank uses a white-label mobile banking app developed by a third-party fintech company, with the app displaying only the bank's own logo and name.
- 2.A marketing agency offers its clients a suite of analytics software tools developed by another company but branded with the agency's own name.
- 3.A telecom operator sells white-label wireless routers manufactured by a device maker but branded with the operator's name.
