Viral Loop

A viral loop is a product growth mechanism in which existing users naturally attract new users as they use the product, creating a self-reinforcing growth cycle.

How it works

At its core, the product is designed to encourage or incentivize users to share or invite others, for example through referral rewards, social sharing features, or collaborative content. This mechanism is critical for SaaS and consumer apps because it can grow the user base exponentially at a very low marginal cost.

Examples

  • 1.When a user signs up for Dropbox via an invite link, both the inviter and the invitee receive extra free storage space.
  • 2.In Slack, team members can easily generate invite links to bring external collaborators directly into a specific work channel.
  • 3.After finishing a design in Canva, users can share it to social media with one click, enticing viewers to try the tool.
