MVP

An MVP (Minimum Viable Product) is the leanest initial version of a product, containing only its most essential features, built to quickly validate market assumptions and gather user feedback.

How it works

In software development, teams build an MVP to avoid wasting resources on complex, unvalidated features. It lets them test the core value proposition at minimal cost and decide the product's future direction based on real feedback from early users.

Examples

  • 1.A food delivery app's MVP might only let users browse three nearby restaurants and place an order, without a complex membership system or rewards store.
  • 2.A project management tool's MVP might only offer basic task creation and assignment, holding off on Gantt charts or automated workflows.
  • 3.An AI writing assistant's MVP might focus solely on continuing and polishing articles, without advanced features like multilingual translation or long-document analysis.
